Volunteering & Placements (Law)

Our Law students can take advantage of a range of opportunities to gain practical experience. Not only will you enhance your CV and learn new skills, you will also make a real difference to the local community. We offer volunteering opportunities in a variety of settings where, with appropriate support and supervision, you will be helping real clients.

‌Legal Advice Centre‌

‌‌Volunteering in our Legal Advice Centre will enable you to gain experience of the law in a practical applied way which includes providing free legal advice, under the supervision of academics and/or professional lawyers, to members of the local community.

This fantastic opportunity enables Law students to develop their legal skills, experience law in operation and reflect on ethics and conduct of legal practice.

‌Wolverhampton Legal Companions (WLC) Scheme‌

‌WLC is a legal companions scheme that runs in collaboration with Wolverhampton County Court. It will help you boost your experience and support members of the public in their dealing with the court.

Students participating in WLC will receive extensive training and be given the opportunity to work with a range of partner organisations, from charities to legal firms.

Law Student Representation Project

The Law Student Representation Project  is an opportunity to volunteer with Wolverhampton City Council's Welfare Rights Service. You will provide tribunals representation for vulnerable and disadvantaged people living in Wolverhampton who are in dispute with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) over entitlements to benefit.

This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in gaining legal work experience to enhance their employability skills, including building their self-confidence and critical analysis skills.
