We’re known by this name because of our dedication to guiding students from all walks of life towards their chosen path. We thrive on diversity and welcome a vast range of students: over 40% are over 25 years old on enrolment, our alumni hail from hundreds of countries across the globe, and our staff provide networks and resources to benefit gender, disability, race, and lifestyle. We’ve been doing this for almost 200 years, and the choice of courses and apprenticeships we offer is as diverse as our community.

We embed employability into all our programmes, contributing to economic growth regionally and nationally by creating opportunities and connections for our students. Almost 87% of our UK graduates from the most recent cohort were employed, in education, or running their own business 15 months after graduation, according to the latest Graduate Outcomes report (published July 2021). It also showed almost 68% of our UK graduates were in highly skilled professions, with 77% working within the West Midlands.

By concentrating our efforts on inclusive student success, we’re committed to enabling you to study in ways that best suit your life, with online lectures, a range of virtual communication methods, e-learning resources, and traditional face-to-face learning including seminars, workshops, and lab activities. In line with our strategic plan for 2030, as the University of Opportunity, we create flexible and personalised learning routes to benefit the people who study with us, and the places they go on to serve.

Investing in the development of our facilities and programmes is an essential part of our progressive ethos, ensuring that our courses and facilities remain world-class. Over the past five years we have made huge advances in our offering, refreshing our course portfolio to reflect industry needs and investing in brand-new facilities including our Business School, state-of-the-art Rosalind Franklin Building, and Springfield Campus, which is dedicated to architecture and built environment.

Our teams include a multi-faith chaplaincy; disability support; academic coaches; mental health & wellbeing advisors; funding and finance experts; and skills for learning tutors.

Our careers team, part of Careers, Enterprise & The Workplace, works hard to support both our students and graduates. You can book 1-2-1 appointments with a careers advisor to discuss career plans, develop skills to help make those plans happen, and gain practical support to help improve your job applications. We also have a mentoring scheme, where you can connect with University alumni and share in their professional knowledge and expertise.

Helping students like you to access higher education is what we’re all about, transforming lives for the better. We offer fundsincluding: access bursaries for disabled students and those who have previously been in care; a travel fund or accommodation cost reduction for all entrants; or you can apply for the Sports Achievement Scholarship, which is worth up to £4,500 over three years! And if you're one of our graduates, you might be entitled to a Postgraduate Loyalty Discount.

We understand the importance of balance, and that employment and family commitments might make full-time, in-person study difficult. In addition to a variety of courses offered at our regional centres in Stafford and Telford, we also offer distance learning for a range of qualifications, from short courses to full undergraduate degrees, as well as part-time courses. We’re changing lives and making a difference through the inspiring work of our research community, whose profile continues to grow and receive global recognition. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (2014), we achieved our best ever results with 41% of our submission graded as world-leading or internationally excellent. With REF 2021 on the horizon, we continue to demonstrate the positive impact our research has on business, industry, society – and, of course, our students, whose teaching is directly informed by the latest innovations and findings.

Research England’s Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) recognises the diverse contributions that universities across the country offer their local areas. The framework aims to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of public funding use for knowledge exchange while aiding continuous improvement in higher education providers. KEF identified the University of Wolverhampton as being in the top 10% nationally for public and community engagement, as well as in the top 10% for local growth and regeneration.
