Professional Associates

Alison is the Head of Work-based Learning at the University of Wolverhampton. She works closely with Academic Faculties and Departments across the University to ensure that systems and processes meet the needs of work-based learners. She is also involved in the accreditation of employer-based training and developing on-line support for the recognition of prior learning. Alison leads the annual Employability and Enterprise Conference and sits on a number of committees and working groups that deal with work-based and lifelong learning as well as chairing the University’s Work-based Learning and Placement Learning Forum. Alison supports CAEL's work in the areas of assessment, evaluation and quality management.

In her role as Assistant Registrar (Quality Management) , Cathy Shaw manages the Quality Management Division at the University of Wolverhampton. This role requires involvement at a more strategic level in the management of the Registry and its work in partnership with University Schools, Departments and the Students’ Union. She has overall responsibility for the development and implementation of University policies and procedures in relation to quality assurance and academic standards in line with governmental and professional drivers in the Higher Education sector. Cathy contributes to CAEL's training sessions on Quality Assurance in Higher Education.  

Charlotte is the Head of Organisational Development for the City of Wolverhampton. She has responsibility for developing the council’s capability to deliver its outcomes. This includes policy and strategy development, insight and performance work to support evidence-based decision-making, managing the council’s portfolio of project and programme activity, and workforce planning and development including employee engagement.
 
In 2014, Charlotte was named in the Society for Local Authority Chief Executive’s (Solace) 'best twenty up and coming managers in local government' and has led an international study tour on local government in Japan.  Charlotte is a contributor to CAEL's work, having delivered sessions on constitution and policy formulation at the local government level.

Gary Butler is a Deputy Director of Finance at the University of Wolverhampton. He has worked in both the education sector and local government for 29 years. He has a wide range of experience in all aspects of financial and management accounting and has been involved in a wide range of both multi-million pound Capital Projects and Revenue Projects (involving partners both within the UK and overseas). Within the University he is an active member of a number of strategy groups and enjoys working collaboratively both within and outside the University.  He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy. As a regular contributor to CAEL's work, Gary delivers training sessions on managing university finance, and corporate governance.

Jan Gilder is the Director of the Project Support Office at the University of Wolverhampton, established in 2011 to stimulate and enhance Research and innovation projects through development. Jan has proven project and business development experience in the research, innovation and education arenas to support regeneration and economic growth.  She has extensive experience of working in partnership with private and public sector organisations. Between 2003 and 2015 Jan instigated the development, winning and delivery (to closure) of £70M worth of projects at the University many supported by the European Union. Jan  contributesto CAEL's work in the areas of research, innovation, and enterprise support; and project management.

Junior Hemans is a visiting lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton Business School, lecturing in strategic management, marketing, leisure and operations. He has many years of experience within the public and voluntary sectors. He previously worked for the Housing Corporation for 10 years as a regulation manager and as a consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers for ten years. Junior currently runs his own small consultancy and is a property developer. He specialises in governance, business start-up, business development and social housing and regeneration. Junior delivers sessions in CAEL's workshops on topics such as developing the procurement process, and management of key supplier relationships.

Marc Fleetham is the Director of Business Solutions at the University of Wolverhampton. He holds a Masters in Business Administration and was a founding member of the Institute of Knowledge Transfer (MInstKT). He helped the University achieve the UK national number one HEI position on Knowledge Transfer Partnerships in 2010. Concurrently, Marc is also the regional manager of a £24million ERDF programme working with eleven other HEI’s from across the West Midlands, delivering over 220 graduate level knowledge transfer commercial projects.  He is a regular contributor to CAEL's projects, and delivers training sessions on business strategies, technology transfer and patent protection.

Nigel Birch has international blue chip and SME company experience within manufacturing technology sectors. He has extensive international experience in Asia and the Middle East. Nigel is Deputy Chairman of the Brussels-based Knowledge Economy Network and a European Ambassador for Building Global Innovation MIT’s Global innovation programme. He has worked for the Technology Strategy Board as a regional Knowledge Transfer Advisor, developing and managing knowledge transfer programmes across a wide range of technology applications into high growth companies. Nigel is a regular contributor to CAEL's work. He was actively involved with CAEL's intervention at the University of Maiduguri Nigeria. He delivers workshop sessions on knowledge transfer partnerships and management of innovation.

Silvia Haycox is the Research Funding Manager at the University of Wolverhampton. She leads on research grant applications, research proposals and bids from the University to a wide range of external funding sources including the UK Research Councils, major research charities, the EU and international programmes. Working with the academic and research staff across the University, Silvia facilitates engagement in research, innovation and knowledge transfer projects and initiatives regionally, nationally and globally. Silvia manages an annual funding portfolio of 70 multi-partner, inter-disciplinary research bids worth in the region of £15 million. She is a regular contributor to CAEL's work, delivering workshop sessions on bidding for project funding, and how to manage funded projects successfully.
