Still-life-no-wig-FF‌The word 'moot' first appears in the English language during the Anglo-Saxon period, when a 'moot' referred to the assembly of important individuals (e.g. nobles) from the local or national community, in order to debate matters of importance, especially those that had judicial or legislative significance.
