FoSS Faculty Enabling Tutors

A Faculty Enabling Tutor (FET) is an appointed academic staff member with an interest in and commitment to the academic support provisions of students with a range of sensory or physical impairments.

Each school has a dedicated FET who advises students and academic staff about a range of support. The FET has a responsibility for advising colleagues within their schools about individual student adjustments which are communicated through the Tutor Awareness Sheet (TAS).

The FET works closely with the University's Student Support & Wellbeing Advisers. They have direct access to the Tutor Awareness Sheets of students that are studying within their schools and act as the main contact  within schools for issues concerning reasonable adjustments.

When you begin your course, we advise that you arrange an initial meeting with your FET so that you are aware of who they are and how they can support you within the learning environment. The FET can advise students and staff on course specific adjustments such as:

  • Handouts in lectures
  • Considerate marking process for written work
  • In-Class test arrangements
  • Internal academic processes such as:
    • Mitigating / extenuating circumstances
    • Leave of Absence Placements.
