In-house academic support for FoSS students

The Academic Skills initiative offers you the opportunity to develop your literacy skills in order to achieve your full potential at the University of Wolverhampton.

A student taking notesWe offer bespoke, friendly and confidential advice including:

  • diagnostic testing
  • essay e-advice service
  • one-to-one academic advice
  • intensive reading and writing courses
  • study materials.

The service will advise on academic skills only and will not mark against your assessment brief or comment on grading for the piece of work.

How to use the e-advice service

To use this service just email a piece of work to FAST@wlv.ac.uk, identifying one aspect you would like to be reviewed - such as referencing, English/numeracy skills, paragraphing or sentence structure. The work will be allocated a 20 minute e-appointment slot with an academic tutor. You will receive a response confirming when the tutor will view your document. After your e-appointment has ended your document will be returned via the FAST email address with constructive feedback on your academic skills writing. Feedback will be returned to you within an hour of the end of your e-appointment.

New for Semester 2, 2019. We are trialing telephone appointments this semester. You can book a telephone appointment in the same way as an e-advice appointment but the academic skills tutor will phone you to discuss the work they have emailed to FAST@wlv.ac.uk

How to book a one-to-one appointment

You can book a 20 or 40 minute session with an Academic Skills Tutor by calling 01902 321789, emailing FAST@wlv.ac.uk or visiting us at Student Services in MU202. Appointments are from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with drop-in sessions available.

Academic Skills Hub

You will see the Academic Skills tutor in the Academic Skills Hub which is in rooms MU216 and MU217 in the Lord Swraj Paul Building.
