Course Profile

This MSc Award in Waste Management is largely aimed at individuals who are interested in, or already engaged in, a career in the waste management sector, such as waste and environmental managers in government, academia and companies. Successful students are expected to move towards middle and senior management level in their employment, where strategic thinking and appropriate skills set in the management of waste as a resource will be beneficial. The Award is broadly divided into two main areas of interest. Firstly, core modules deal primarily with the sustainable management of waste materials and some of the technologies available to successfully treat the different materials, and products or emission streams of such technological solutions. Secondly, core option modules introduce a range of the more generic study and personal development skills that a project manager in waste might be expected to demonstrate. There is a strong applied and technological perspective to the course, which is designed to equip students for careers in the waste, pollution control and clean-up industries. There is also an opportunity to enhance employability through the experience of postgraduate learning in the workplace, which may be taken as a core option module for students already in relevant employment.

Successful students on this Award may find employment in the public sector (local, regional and national government agencies), waste management companies or as  waste/ environmental managers in a wide range of private companies such as the oil and gas industry. Students will be encouraged to join waste management professional organizations at both national and international levels.

12 months (full time), 24 months (part time)

Tuition Fee:

£6,000 (inclusive of tuition costs and accomodation at the summer school)

Special Features:

1 month summer school at the University of Wolverhampton. Students will also have full access to our state of the art online learning platform (Wolverhampton online Framework, WOLF).

Entry Requirements:

Students must have achieved at least a lower second class honours degree (or equivalent) from one of a range of subjects, e.g. science, engineering or business.
As this is a distance learning course, a large amount of directed and self-directed study will be required.  Students must therefore have a good standard of written and spoken English (at least IELTS 6.5 or equivalent for all aspects of the test. Good IT facilities and access to the internet will be essential for this course.
