Becoming a Social Work Practice Educator (7so021)
(Stage 1)
NOTE: To undertake a Practice Educator Module you must
(a) have the support of a practice-based ‘assessor’ who will be responsible for supporting and assessing your learning
(b) be in an organisation approved to provide a social work qualifying student placement and
(c) be able to oversee a social work student on placement (i.e. act as a Practice Educator) during your time of studying to become a Practice Educator.

Module Aims
This course will enable qualified social workers to effectively support the learning and assessment (short of final summative assessment of professional capability) of student social workers in the practice setting. Successful completion of this module confirms ability at Stage 1 of the Practice Educator Professional Standards for Social Work.
Content
The content addresses the values underpinning learning and assessment in the work-place and the relevant domains of ability for work-based learning:
Domain A: Work with others to organise an effective learning environment
Domain B: Teaching, facilitating and supporting learning and professional development in practice
Domain C: Manage the fair and transparent assessment of students in practice
Domain D: Developing knowledge and continuing performance as a practice educator
Practice based learning
Candidates are required, as part of the module’s learning content, to provide a social work student with a placement which fulfils the requirements for such provision.
Assessment
Assessment is through a written account of being a practice educator and the presentation of a portfolio of examples of your performance taken from a range of practice documents and feedback.
Entry Requirement
Applicants need to be registered social workers with at least 2 full years’ post-qualifying experience
