World Music Fridays

Thanks to the generous support of ISME (International Society for Music Education) and their community fund, the School of Performing Arts is offering a brand new initiative: World Music Fridays!

The project consists of a series of workshops delivered at The Performance Hub to children and adults in our local community. Starting on Friday 8th March, the project rolls out over three phases, each of which introduce new participants to a range of world musics. Run in conjunction with Artbeat and with the support of Walsall Music Hub, our Music students will assist in the delivery of workshops as part of their ABRSM Certificate of Music Educators qualification. Participants will experience Samba Drumming, Gamelan and Steel Pan, with each phase running for a total of six weeks.

The first phase culminates on Friday 12th April with a lunchtime performance in our Black Box Theatre.

The aim of the project is to facilitate community interaction and integration, alongside encouraging intergenerational learning. From Walsall to Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago to Indonesia, our participants are sure to experience a range of music in a welcoming and educational environment.
