If you are self isolating, you MUST engage and attend lessons online through CANVAS. During your 14 days of self isolation, please do not leave your accommodation and do not go onto campus.

Don’t forget that we are here to support you in any way we can just email InternationalSupport@wlv.ac.uk (with your student ID number).

We recommend that before you travel you refer to the UK Government Guidelines

It is important to note that from 04:00am on Monday 18th January the Government is introducing new pre-departure testing requirements for all inbound passengers to England. Passengers arriving in England will be asked to provide evidence of a qualifying negative COVID-19 test dated no longer than 3 days before departure.

If you don’t present proof of a negative test result certificate, you may not be able to board any form of transport to travel to England and if you arrive in England without proof of a negative test result, you could be fined £500.

For the latest UK travel advice, please visit the GOV.UK website

Currently, students arriving in the UK are required to self-isolate for a period of 14 days unless they are travelling from a country which is listed in Coronavirus (COVID-19) travel corridors (for England).

Students who are required to self-isolate will need to have arranged accommodation for the first two weeks of their stay in the UK, and must also fill in a public health passenger locator form at least 48 hours before arriving in the UK.

We want to reassure you that we are closely monitoring international responses around the world and this might impact your ability to start your studies in September/October such as what is happening in your home country; travel restrictions globally; the safety of international travel and visa processing availability. Further information can also be obtained at:

Our CAS link is open for students so you may go ahead and apply for CAS. The outcome of your credibility interview will be shared with the CAS team directly.

Once you have accepted your unconditional offer of a place, we will check your documentation to ensure that you will be eligible to obtain a visa and subject to you having the appropriate finances in place, we will issue you with a CAS.

Further guidance on visas is available here on our Visa and Immigration pages. Visa decisions will be made by the UKVI.

Most UK Visa Application Centres (VACs) have resumed services, where local restrictions allow. For updates to the status of VACs, students can contact:

Please be aware, ongoing global restrictions mean some UKVI services will remain closed. Individuals should contact their local VAC to find out the latest status. Where services are resuming, existing customers will be contacted.

On 8 June 2020, the UK government implemented a policy of self-isolation for anyone arriving in the UK. The aim is to help manage the risks to public health from coronavirus (Covid-19), and at the time of writing the policy may require new arrivals to the UK to self-isolate for a period of 14 days from the date of arrival.

The general principles are that:

  • It applies to all arrivals to the UK from countries that are not on the exempt lists
  • All arrivals, regardless of nationality or the country of origin, must complete a Passenger Locator Form before travelling to the UK, listing the address of the nominated place of self-isolation.  You can complete it up to 48 hours before you enter the UK. All students required to self-isolate when they arrive in the UK will need to give details of the accommodation in which they plan to self-isolate, so please be sure to have these details arranged when you complete the form.
  • Individuals must bring a copy of the Passenger Locator Form  with them (either printed or electronic), and they should travel directly to their isolation accommodation.
  • If it is necessary to use public transport to transfer to the nominated accommodation. Due to the COVID-19 Health & Safety measures, face coverings must be worn in enclosed public spaces including public transport, railway and bus stations and airports. For further information https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-safer-travel-guidance-for-passengers
  • Anyone required to self-isolate should not leave their identified accommodation for any reason until the self-isolation period (currently 14 days) is complete
  • Compliance with the self-isolation is a personal responsibility – and failure to comply with the requirements is an offence and can result into a fine, payable by the individual.

14 days self-Isolation

If you are self isolating, you MUST engage and attend lessons online through CANVAS. During your 14 days self isolation, please do not leave your accommodation and do not go onto campus.

Once you are in the UK, attendance at all of your scheduled on campus sessions will be mandatory and will be monitored via the University’s monitoring system. We will be monitoring your progress through your attendance, engagement with the online sessions via canvas and other resources we are offering. We will also monitor your submission to assessments. You must maintain both your attendance and your engagement in order to maintain compliance with the conditions of your visa.

If you are starting your course online in your home country, we will monitor your engagement and this will be taken into account when we issue you with a CAS.

All students will need to complete the University of Wolverhampton Pre-Arrival form before they travel to the UK https://www.wlv.ac.uk/current-students/new-students/international-arrival-form/

  • If you require the airport transfer service, this is only available from Birmingham Airport (BHX) and will be for students only.
  • If you are travelling with friends and family, you will unfortunately not be able to use the Airport Transfer Service.

The Immigration Health Surcharge is paid by people applying to work, study or join family in the UK for a time-limited period of more than six months. It also applies to those who seek to extend their stay. Individuals who pay the charge may access the comprehensive range of NHS services in broadly the same manner as a permanent UK resident. This means they generally only pay charges that a UK resident would also pay, such as prescription charges in England.

You will need to pay the immigration health surcharge when you make your Student Route visa application. On 27th October 2020, the Immgration Health Surcharge incresaed to £470 per year.

Note: EU, EEA and Swiss citizens need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge if they’re applying to come to the UK to work, study or live from January 2021, through the Points-Based Immigration System.

This entitles you to use the NHS once you are in the UK More information on immigration health surcharges

The ATAS is valid for 6 months from the date of issue so if the expiry date goes past the date of visa application, you will need a new one.

In line with the Government guidance, there are currently no on campus, Face to Face teaching. The restrictions mean that all our courses, with the exception of health courses which lead to professional registration, will be delivered fully online from the start of term until at least mid-February.

Students should continue to follow Government guidance and not travel to the University. We are therefore advising all our international students starting with us this January not to travel and to start their courses online. However, you must enrol online by Monday 18th January and engage with your learning online.

Before arriving in the UK, students MUST make all their accommodation arrangements and:

  • Review the latest government advice relating to any countries that they travel through on their way to the UK
  • Complete the passenger locator form 48 hours of their departure time
  • Ensure that they bring a copy of the completed Passenger Locator Form with them – either by printing a copy, or showing it on your phone
  • Bring a face mask and hand sanitiser in their hand luggage
  • Endeavour to bring an international credit or debit card – recognising that it may be difficult to open a bank account in the first two weeks and that using cash should be avoided
  • Securing their accommodation before travelling to the UK
  • Ensuring that they know how they will travel to their accommodation once in the UK.
  • Fill in the University of Wolverhampton Pre-Arrival Form
  • When you arrive self isolate
