The Scholarship will cover full tuition fees and provide a cost-of-living bursary

The Scholarship will also cover a return economy class ticket and other study-related costs such as an IELTS exam fee where relevant, visa application fee and NHS surcharge where required.

Applicants must demonstrate that they need financial support for their studies as part of the application process and showcase they have a genuine enthusiasm for STEM.

You can apply if you:

• Are a national of and hold a passport for one of the following countries:
• Argentina
• Brazil
• Colombia
• Cuba
• Jamaica
• Mexico
• Peru
• Venezuela
• Are classed as an overseas student for fee purposes;
• Can demonstrate that you have the need for financial support for your studies;
• Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto one of the eligible postgraduate programme listed above.
• Hold an offer (conditional or unconditional) to start a qualifying one-year full-time master's degree in September 2021 at the University of Wolverhampton. The qualifying degrees are listed below.
• Can attain the level of English required for postgraduate study at a UK university now or upon completion of a pre-sessional English course
• Are active in the STEM field with work experience or a proven interest in their subject area
• You must be willing to demonstrate future contribution to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement through the benefits achieved after graduating from UK higher education.
• Demonstrate a plan and a passion to engage other women and girls in STEM from their home country
• Agree to maintain contact with the British Council and act as an ambassador for the UK and engage with activities as part of a Scholarships for Women in STEM alumnus during and after their studies in the UK.
• Be a woman (cis-gendered or trans) or identify as non-binary.

Unfortunately, you are not eligible for a Scholarship if you:

• Hold dual British citizenship
• Are an employee, a former employee, or relative (*) of an employee of Her Majesty’s Government (including British Embassies/High Commissions; the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy; Department for International Trade; the Ministry of Defence; and the Home Office)
• Are an employee, a former employee, or relative (*) of an employee of the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM – eligible countries
       (*): Relatives are defined as parents or step-parents, siblings or step-siblings, children or stepchildren, spouse, civil partner or unmarried partner (where the couple have been in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership for at least two years).
• Are currently in receipt of financial support or funding towards your study programme in the UK from any other source
• Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship or a UK institutional scholarship/financial bursary

Applicants can apply for the Scholarship, if they hold an unconditional or conditional offer to study with us for the following Masters Courses. These courses are full time courses and will begin in September 2021:

1. Ensure you have made an application to the University of Wolverhampton for the course you are interested in. You can begin an application here. 2. You must hold a conditional or unconditional offer to study at the University of Wolverhampton, before you can apply for the British Council Women in STEM Scholarship.
3. Ensure you meet the eligibility criteria for the Scholarship and understand the Conditions of the Scholarship. Once you have received your offer from the University, complete the Scholarship application form here.
4. Form must be completed in English

For conditional offer-holders, scholarship awards will be conditional on achieving the English language requirements and any other conditions listed on your offer letter. If you are awarded a British Council Women in STEM Scholarship, you will not be eligible for any other University of Wolverhampton Scholarships or Bursaries. Applicants who defer their studies cannot defer their scholarship. 

If you are awarded a scholarship, you will agree to act as an Ambassador for the University of Wolverhampton and at times will be asked to participate in events or promotional activities.

All Scholarship applications must be submitted by 12 noon (UK Time) by Wednesday 14^th April 2021.

Selection Process:

A Steering Committee, composed of reviewers from the University of Wolverhampton and Programme Leads from the British Council will select the candidates through a points-based system, utilising the programme’s criteria.
