Charlene Butler - Knowledge Transfer Manager

Charlene graduated from Keele University in 2010 with a first class (Hons) degree in Chemistry and Forensic Science (BSc). She then trained as a Mass Spectrometrist at the EPSRC funded National Mass Spectrometry Facility located in Swansea University. She also has commercial experience from her role as Marketing Projects Coordinator with the speciality chemical distributor Lake Chemicals and Minerals Ltd. Charlene joined the University of Wolverhampton in 2012 as a Senior Laboratory Technician, this role involved technical support of Forensic Science practical lessons as well as operating a Scanning Electron Microscope and Particle Sizer. She was promoted to Teaching Associate in Chemistry in 2014 and gained the Post Graduate Certificate for Academic Practice in 2015. Charlene contributed to the practical teaching of chemistry, design and organisation of experiments and delivery of outreach for over four years before joining the EnTRESS team. She was awarded a total £4312 in small grants from the Royal Society of Chemistry to deliver chemistry outreach events and activities for local schools and colleges.

Charlene is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and has been an active member of the Analytical Science Network. She chaired the three-day Emerging Analytical Professionals Conference in 2015 and has been an active member of the organising committee for five years.

Charlene brings to EnTRESS analytical chemistry expertise, which can be applied to the identification of chemical waste content. Knowledge of chemical composition is essential before treatment and recycling options can be considered. Charlene is also passionate about reducing the volume of general waste sent to landfill.
