Andrew Barnett - Knowledge Transfer Manager

Andrew started his career as an apprentice metallurgist at a Midland Steelworks, undertaking chemical analysis, destructive/non-destructive testing of steels, before joining Walsall Technical College as a Maintenance Engineer and winning a prestigious City and Guilds Silver Medal.  After lecturing in Maintenance Systems, Fluid Power, Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing for a number of years before becoming Head of Engineering at College.  Subsequently he left college to join the University's Center of Engineering Excellence based at the Science Park as a Senior Manufacturing Associate.  Working on the University's WMTN project for five years Andrew provided companies across the West Midlands with technical expertise in the areas of Innovation, Product/Process design and development, CAD/CAM design, rapid prototyping and training.  As well as commercial delivery of design and manufacturing services such as CAD/FEA analysis, fault diagnosis, physical material testing and rapid prototyping.

Normally working with Senior Managers to implement strategic technical improvements, design and process innovation he returned to industry to work for a multinational plastic molding company on process improvement, manufacturing cell automation and design of automation swarf extraction systems before moving on to a commercial vehicle body builder as a Design and Process Engineer.  Now having re-joined the University, Andrew brings a wealth of design manufacturing, process improvement and production expertise to the EnTRESS project.  Helping companies raise their resource and process efficiencies and the adoption of environmental technologies.
