Suzie Mellors, Business Development Officer, Conferencing Solutions
Suzie’s early career began with the West Midlands Ambulance Service but after several years she changed direction and followed her passion organising events at a Wolverhampton hotel. During the five years at the hotel Suzie successfully organised over 50 weddings and countless conferences, training courses and Christmas parties. Suzie also set up a popular monthly theme night, inviting customers for Murder Mystery evenings, Tribute nights, Barn Dances and Comedy Nights. This monthly calendar of events still continues at the hotel today which is something Suzie is very proud of. Looking to broaden her experience, Suzie started her employment with the University of Wolverhampton in 2008 as an Events Co-ordinator within the Conference Team at Telford. Suzie account managed some high profile customers including the RAF Cosford Airshow, The V-Festival, the MOD & BAE Systems who officially commended Suzie for “her excellent work supporting them on their Saudi training courses”. Suzie attended evening classes over 2 years gaining a management qualification in 2012 and is now a member of the Chartered Management Institute.
In 2013 Suzie was promoted to a secondment based at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park in the role of Conference Sales and Marketing Officer. Suzie successfully managed the challenge of setting up the new Conference Centre increasing on yearly sales and ensuring customer satisfaction during their events. This position was made permanent in 2014 and following a restructure in 2018, Suzie’s title became Business Development Officer covering all four campuses. Moving to the Countryside in 2018, Suzie now lives in an area of outstanding natural beauty just outside Shrewsbury. She is happily married with three spirited little boys and has reduced her role to 3 days a week in order to support the needs of a busy family. Suzie and her husband let out an Airbnb guest suite which is popular with tourists and they also volunteer for Help the Elderly by hosting a Tea Party twice a year. Suzie plays badminton in the Shropshire League and loves entertaining family and friends. She is passionate about food and cooking – “One day I would love to go on Come Dine with me or Masterchef.”
