Louise Callaghan, Business Development Manager, Conferencing Solutions

Louise joined the University of Wolverhampton in 2002 with the challenge to create a conference department from new and now is Business Development Manager responsible for conference sales for two conference centres in the Midlands, 250 single en-suite conference bedrooms in Telford and Chancellors Hall in Wolverhampton. Former Marketing Manager at the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, Louise has organised several hundred events across Shropshire for businesses in the 7 years she was in this role, including setting up an emergency team and helpline for the Foot and Mouth outbreak. Prior to working at the Chambers of Commerce, Louise was a Sales Representative for Midlands Newspapers Ltd, working on different features including Wine & Dine, being in a full-time sales role gave Louise the skills to work under pressure to deadlines and contract negotiation.

In the evenings, Louise has also been a part-time lecturer for over 15 years in HNC Business Studies at a local college, Louise attended evening classes to gain a teaching qualification in 1998 to broaden her skill base, this role helped people from all walks of life develop and grow in their careers, which Louise found very rewarding. Louise has also had the opportunity to travel abroad including Kentucky USA and Melbourne and Brisbane Australia. Being a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Louise is active with business networks including Academic Venue Solutions, Meetings Industry Association, Telford Hoteliers Group, VisitEngland and Chambers of Commerce.   In her spare time Louise is co-manager of a social network group ‘Telford Socials’ and has grown the network to over 170 members in less than 12 months, Louise organises social events every week in her spare time as she loves meeting new people and being active.
