Advanced Workshops
Wolverhampton School of Art / Advanced Workshops
Exhibition by Fine Art & Photography students Wolverhampton School of Art
Workshops are a major part of the learning experience at the Wolverhampton School of Art, stretching an understanding of practical skills whilst coming into contact with material, cultural, social, historical and contemporary issues.
This exhibition brings together work produced by BA (Hons) Fine Art, BA (Hons) Photography and MA Fine Art students who took part in an Advanced Workshop programme of their choice between September 2020 - May 2021.
Despite the challenges and difficulties students have faced over the last year, this group have persevered, continuing to make from home via care packages, online workshops and then within the art school itself. The diversity of the work reflects the range of workshops available, each student developing a personal response.
Advanced Workshops 2020 - 21
Materiality
With a focus on painting and related studio based ‘dirty’ practice, the Materiality workshop looked to develop an understanding of material practice and how we learn to speak and articulate positions through process, form, content and the act/performance of making.
Public Space
This workshop explored how artists engage with space and place based on expanding knowledge of site specific, community led and socially led art practices.
Poetics of Change
This workshop supported the production and dissemination of a body of work destined to act as an agent for change in response to personal and socio-political matters.
Print & Experimental Photography
This workshop brought out distinct qualities of image making through a diverse range of printmaking and photographic processes. For example, 4 process screen printing, photo etching, cyanotype, wet plate collodions, and more.
Performing Identities
This workshop explores questions around identity through still and moving image.
Image for Publication
Taking the term publication in the broadest sense, this workshop explored how Photographers and Artists develop images for different contexts.
Thanks to the following people for their support in running workshops and installing the exhibition: Jim Abernethy, Euripides Altintzoglou, Maggie Ayliffe, Annie Benton, Dan Collins, Matthew Finn, Simon Harris, Dean Kelland, Laura Onions, Gavin Rogers.
