Examining By the end of this session you should be able to: ◾Apply the University's examination process and procedures appropriately ◾Clarify the responsibilities of internal and external examiners – what do you do to prepare? ◾Articulate what constitutes a “good” thesis; learning outcomes and assessment criteria; ◾Conduct a viva voce examination ◾Deal with post viva issues - examination outcomes. Chairing By the end of this session you should be able to: ◾approach chairing a viva with confidence; ◾ensure that the University’s regulations are fully observed; ◾ensure a fair and appropriate experience for the candidate. |

Examiners:- This workshop is compulsory for all newly appointed, inexperienced MPhil and PhD examiners. Experienced examiners should regard this as an opportunity to update on current requirements. Chairs:-All newly appointed Chairs are expected to attend the briefing workshop. In addition, all members of staff with research supervisory experience who anticipate a request to chair research degree examinations are encouraged to attend this workshop |

The workshop explores how as a research supervisor you can support neuro-diverse students such as those with dyslexia, or who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The session will also consider how research students can work with Student Support and Wellbeing, and how this works within the supervisory relationship. |
