About the project
Student and staff feedback identified a need for an improved timetabling system, our timetables used to be hard to understand, slow to update, and make ineffective use of the facilities that the University had to offer. The Timetabling and Room Booking project introduced a new way of working and brought in a new system for both staff and students to improve the learning and teaching experience at the University of Wolverhampton.
The aim of the project
The project aims to implement a new system that provides personal timetables for both students and staff; allowing a timetable to be built around the individual, rather than the courses. The project aims to improve communication to students of any timetable changes, as well as release timetables at an earlier point in the academic year to aid forward planning. In addition, a new online self-service room booking system will see a reduction in both staff intervention and approval times, allowing students and staff to make better use of avaiable University spaces.
Personalised Timetabling
Students currently see all information relating to a course that they are enrolled onto (eg. all seminar or lab groups). Personalised timetables will only display the seminar group or lab group that you are a member of, reducing clutter and making your timetable far easier to read.
The personalised timetable will be accessible via myWLV and will also include any events created on Canvas for your course, or any events in your Outlook calendar - all in one place.
Staff will also have access to their own personal timetable, via an online portal, which will show any learning or teaching events which they are associated with.
Room Booking
As part of our mission to improve the overall student and staff experience, the University will undergo changes that will see the introduction of a new online room booking system. This system will show all available learning and teaching spaces that have not been used by the timetable, allowing better utilisation of some of our key facilities for staff and students.
The new system will allow students and staff to view room availability before making their booking and when doing so, receive instant approval/response. Users will also be able to search for a specific type of space and receive recommendations of available rooms that suit their needs - with 360° views of most spaces built into the system before you book.
This should allow a faster, less manual process for booking the spaces you need as a student or member of staff.
