Join the LGBTQIA+ Liberation Rep sessions this February - everyone is welcome!
Everyone is welcome to join in the event programme run by the Students' Union LGBTQIA+ Liberation Rep, taking place throughout LGBTQ+ History Month.
The Students' Union Liberation Representatives are elected to work on behalf of students to ensure their voices are heard and represented, creating positive change across both academic and campus life. Liberation Reps foster inclusive and supportive environments by running events, activities and discussions, gathering feedback about what needs to change at the University.
Sam McCracken, the LGBT+ Liberation Rep, has arranged a packed program of activity taking place throughout LGBTQ+ History Month and beyond, for which, everyone is welcome to join. If you have any questions or require support please don't hesitate to contact Sam at S.J.McCracken@wlv.ac.uk.
February 2024 - LGBTQ+ History Month
Highlights include:
Drop in Social & Support Sessions @ Deli Moon
An opportunity for those who are LGBTQIA+ or not, to have an opportunity to socialise, or obtain support should they want or need it. These sessions are not mandatory, but everyone is welcome.
Black LGBT History & How to be a Great Ally, 19 February
An introduction from Wolverhampton LGBT Charity, detailing the services they offer to students, and a run-down of what events they run on a weekly basis. Following that, we will look at How to be a Great Ally, looking at multiple demographics on allyship, and creating an open forum for discussion and conversation. Lastly, we will dive into Black LGBT History, looking at Ballroom culture, LGBT language and its origins in Black culture, and how this has presented itself in the modern day.
Pride & Protest Placard creation, 20 February
This will look at the history of LGBT Protest (Stonewall Riots)/Pride, protest art & its significance in modern art movements, and an opportunity for students to make their own Pride Protest placards, to hopefully take to Wolverhampton or Birmingham Pride in the Summertime.
RuPaul Drag Race Watch Party, 22 February
An opportunity for students to relax a little, and watch the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race (USA) Season 16.
LGBT Sexual Health Awareness, 27 February
With the help of our own Nursing Students, this is an open seminar discussing experiences as both staff and patients in clinical settings as LGBT persons. Everyone is welcome to attend to learn about other people's experiences in healthcare settings, but this would be of most benefit to Nursing and Psychology students.
