Student Update: Hardship funding available
This year continues to be very difficult for everyone, and we recognise that this is an extremely unusual time to be a student. Thank you for everything you are doing to protect our University community.
If you are struggling financially because of Covid-19, our hardship fund is here to support you.
The funding is available to all students experiencing financial hardship and can be used, for example, to help you to pay rent or bills, to buy food or to get IT equipment or Wi-Fi access that you need for your studies.
Students who wish to benefit from the hardship fund are urged to apply as soon as possible; the final deadline is Friday, 12 March 2021. Funds are being allocated on a first come, first served basis. Any additional funding that the University has received that has not been assigned by 31 March must be returned to the Government.
Applications received after 12 March will still be considered, but any awards will be made from the University funds, which are not unlimited.

Who can apply?
The hardship fund is available to all UK, international, and EU students studying in England except students on apprenticeships or studying stand-alone modules.
What if I have previously applied for hardship funding?
If you have previously applied for the Dennis Turner Hardship Fund, your application will automatically be reviewed, and the funding support team will contact you. You do not need to do anything.
How do I apply?
Applications for the hardship fund can be made in e:Vision.
- Log in to e:Vision and go to the Student Home Page.
- Under Notices, select Apply or Upload evidence for Pandemic Hardship Fund.

Applications should be made as soon as possible; the final deadline is Friday, 12 March 2021.
What is required?
New applicants are required to outline what they need financial support for briefly.
You will be asked to provide a bank statement to confirm bank details and identification. If you need money to help you pay your rent, we ask you to provide a copy of your rental agreement or proof of contract.
You will need to upload these as pdf. files to e:Vision, so it is best to get these ready before you start. (You can save and return to your application if you need to.)

What happens after I submit my application?
Once you have submitted your application, you will be contacted by the funding support team by email. You can also track your application status from your e:Vision account.
A panel is assessing applications every week. Awards will be based on individual circumstances. You will receive notification of the decision by email as soon as possible.
Although we cannot guarantee an award, we try to help as many of our students in financial hardship as we can.

Where can I find extra advice?
Student Finance England guidance for students who have moved back home:
Usually, students who leave their university accommodation during term would be reassessed, and their loan amount would be reduced to the ‘living at home’ rate. However, the UK Government has decided that for this term, any student who is still having to pay accommodation costs for their accommodation away from home, such as rent, will not be reassessed. This is to make sure students have the financial support they need during these exceptional circumstances.
If you’ve moved back home for the rest of the term, but you do not have any ‘away from home’ accommodation costs, you will still be supported by this UK Government decision.
