Academic appeals

The University Academic Appeals procedure is in place to enable students to appeal against the decisions of an Assessment Board, for example where a grade has been recorded incorrectly or there has been an error in the application of the University regulations in a decision regarding progression, completion, or conferment. This process can also be used to appeal against the outcome of an Extenuating Circumstances claim.

Postgraduate Research Students

ACADEMIC APPEALS

14.1 The University has an appeals procedure that is available for all research students. (https://www.wlv.ac.uk/current-students/conduct-and-appeals/)

14.2 Appellants will not be disadvantaged as a result of bringing an academic appeal.

14.3 A student registered for a postgraduate research degree has the right to appeal against a decision made at any of the key assessment points:

1. Taught modules (Professional Doctorate Students only)
2. Progression decision (Annual Progress Review or Progression Stage)
3. Examination or re-examination of the thesis.

14.4 In addition, students may also appeal against decisions made relating to:

1. The decision that there is no prima facie case for the award of a PhD by Published Work.
2. Withdrawal of registration due to lack of academic progress.
