The content of this module will be in line with the SRA Assessment Specification for SQE Stage 1 in relation to Business Law and Practice. As such, the nature and structure of different business media (sole traders, partnerships, LLPs and companies) will be studied, including financing options, taxation implications for the business and associated stakeholders and corporate and personal insolvency.
A practical overview of how the criminal justice system operates in relation to a suspect being investigated by the police, to how the courts deal with offences, defendants, evidence, sentence and appeals throughout the course of proceedings, with reference to the SQE1 assessment specification.
Dispute resolution in a practical context. Identifying and applying core principles of contract and tort law; developing a working understanding of the litigation process and the Civil Procedure Rules in accordance with the SRA Assessment Specification for SQE Stage 1 for Dispute Resolution.
The research methods component of the module will prepare students for conducting legal research at postgraduate level. It will inform students on how to select a research topic and be able to engage in appropriate research methodology exploring a variety of sources. Skills such as critical thinking are examined as well as the ability to plan and design the parameters of one’s research method. The module will help students on how to write up research using the correct referencing conventions for law. After completing the first component of the module students are able to undertake a bespoke study on a defined legal topic, issue or problem giving them enhanced critical awareness and informing their current or future practice.
The content of the module will be in line with the SRA Assessment Specification for SQE Stage 1 in relation to Residential and Commercial Property Law in a practical context and will include residential conveyancing transactions from the perspectives of a buyer and a seller and consideration of key aspects of a business lease from the perspective of either a Landlord or a Tenant.
The content of the module will be in line with the SRA Assessment Specification for SQE Stage 1 in relation to the functioning legal knowledge on the legal system of England and Wales, sources of law and the provision of legal services including the regulatory role of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) in relation to the solicitors' profession.
The content of the module will be in line with the SRA Assessment Specification for SQE Stage 1 in relation to Wills and the Administration of Estates and the rules of Solicitor's Accounts in a practical context.
