Telford and Wrekin Council

The Team at University Centre Telford has developed an extremely successful working relationship with Telford and Wrekin Council since the Centre first opened in 2015. This partnership is now a truly reciprocal partnership which works effectively both at a strategic level and on a more practical day to day level to support the people of Telford.

One of the key aims of the Centre is to raise aspirations and higher skills in Telford. One of the many ways that this is achieved is through the excellent partnership working with Telford and Wrekin Council's JobBox Services including National Careers Service and Future Focus to increase access and progression for adult learners.

The Centre has worked collaboratively with the Council on a number of major Borough wide projects. These include the Telford50 celebrations which took place in 2018. The Centre jointly hosted the Discover Digital event which took place in June 2018 and was a huge success involving over 3000 school children visiting Southwater for a range of digital activities. The University of Wolverhampton was one of the main sponsors of the event and a large number of staff from different subject areas took part and offered the opportunity for children to engage in interactive digital activities. The Centre hosted a Live Q and A session with a former astronaut via a live link to NASA which was incredibly exciting for all those involved, especially the children. The Centre also hosted a number of Masterclasses in Cyberpsychology, Digital Marketing and Forensics. Staff from the Centre always particpate in the major Council events in the Town Park such as the Balloon Fiesta.

The Centre was also involved in the recent #TelfordKnifeAngel project. We hosted and sponsored the Opening Ceremony and met the sculptor, Alfie Bradley and the owner, Clive Knowles from the British Ironworks Centre. We were very proud to accept a National Anti-Violence Award for the key work that we supported through hosting a range of events.

We hosted theatre workshops by Loudmouth UK for 100s of children from local schools and helped to deliver the key messages regarding the dangers of knife crime and the consequences of becoming involved in anti-social behaviour.

We hosted lectures by Alison Cope who is an inspirational anti-knife and anti-violence campaigner. She spoke to groups of Telford College students in the Centre and also to members of the public.

Telford College

University Centre Telford is also in partnership with Telford College. The College offers a range of full and part-time courses in 23 different A Level subjects as well as vocational courses, apprenticeships and bespoke skills training packages for individuals and companies. Students benefit from a well-planned curriculum which offers choice and flexibility and enables them to develop strong academic, vocational and employability skills.

In order to aid student progression, the University of Wolverhampton also works in partnership with Telford College. The College offers a range of its own higher education courses including Foundation Degrees delivered from the College itself and also from University Centre Telford. Students can then progress onto top-up degrees including those offered by the University of Wolverhampton at University Centre Telford.

Telford College has over 8,000 students covering over 70 different industry areas in post-16 academic, vocational and university level courses and apprenticeships.
