Course studied: BA (Hons) Special Educational Needs, Disability, Inclusion and Childhood and Family Studies (Top-up)

Graduated: 2019

Before joining the University of Wolverhampton, I completed a Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education with Telford College and then became a practitioner within an early years setting.

I then chose to study with the University of Wolverhampton at University Centre Telford, as I wanted to stay local yet study a degree in my area of interest and pursue my ambition to becoming a Primary Teacher. Studying with the University of Wolverhampton allowed me to continue to work full time, yet study part time.

I first successfully completed the Foundation Degree in Early Years Services with the University of Wolverhampton at Telford College. This allowed me to progress onto the 18 months Top Up to achieve a 1st Class BA Honours in Special Educational Needs, Disability, Inclusion and Childhood and Family Studies.

My studies and experience of higher education were supported by knowledgeable lecturers, a supportive tutor and peers as well as accessible facilities and resources to support my learning. I enjoyed undertaking my very own research project as a part of my course and being part of a supportive learning community.

Studying my Top Up Degree at University Centre Telford has been very useful as it is situated in the Town Centre and is also very close to the Priorslee campus. This was very helpful during my studies when accessing reading material from the library. Also having access to the computers and the printer at University Centre Telford helped me to prepare for lectures beforehand. Staff at the Centre were always very welcoming and always happy to help.

My top tips for anybody thinking of returning to study would be to do their research in relation to the course they would like to study, be organised and be prepared to be committed. Most importantly to enjoy their journey of learning and growth as an individual.

Since completing my BA Honours, I have chosen to continue to pursue my ambition of becoming a Primary Teacher and have been offered an opportunity to train to teach on a School Direct Programme. I am really looking forward to the next chapter and to what the future holds!
