The School of Medicine and Clinical Practice (SMCP) supports medical research in a variety of ways, in collaboration with Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) and other NHS partners, through its Clinical Medicine Research Group (CMRG). We provide the opportunity to undertake an academic approach to clinical medicine through higher level learning in evidence-based practice, clinical governance and clinical research methodology. The University conducts national and world-leading research in the medical sciences which will support our return to the next Research Excellence Framework in 2021 and includes the following groups (with others currently being established):
- Cardiology/Cardiovascular
- Diabetes
- Gastroenterology
- Haematology
- Immunology/Renal
- Laboratory Medicine
- Neonatology
- Oncology
- Ophthalmology
SMCP will support you as you undertake research projects at Master’s, PhD or MD (available from 2019) level. Some PhD studentships will also be available to assist with research networks.
Each clinical research group is led by a senior NHS consultant of honorary or substantive Professorial standing, supported by an academic/scientific co-lead at the University. The groups are actively working towards achieving research outcomes to improve patient care.
