LGBT+ Equality - Then and Now
LGBT+ History Month / LGBT+ Equality - Then and Now
In this special LGBT+ History Month talk, Will Cooling explores the progress that has been made towards LGBT+ Equality since 1967, when male homosexuality was legalised in England and Wales. He draws upon both his background in equalities as well as his lived experienced as a bisexual man, to talk about how legalisation came about and the key debates and developments that followed, including the LGBT+ community's relationship with the police, Section 28, legal recognition of gender transition and gay marriage. In particular, he will outline how rapidly progress has been made since the turn of the century.
Will Cooling has been Head of Equality and Diversity at the University of Wolverhampton since 2017 and has over twenty years of experience in LGBT+ activism and commentary.
This talk is suitable for 14yrs and above and was recorded on 18th February 2021.
