Title of Piece: Birds

Statement:

I am primarily a vector artist whose preferred subject is wildlife, and in particular I enjoy drawing attention to more obscure or overlooked animals, but with my final project I decided to focus on the most common birds in the West Midlands using the data from the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch 2020. I wanted to display the birds we see every day - but may know nothing about - in a new, more visually exciting light, utilising a clean geometric style I have played with and enjoyed in the past, breaking them down to their basic shapes and only using what is necessary to depict them without making the illustrations inaccurate or losing their sense of form.

Ideally, I would want to continue to use my art to teach and inform, making information eye-catching, exciting, and digestible, dipping into both illustration and graphic design as necessary. During lockdown I have also started experimenting with animation programs with the intention of putting my animals into motion.
