Scott Cooper, 2020 BA (Hons) Interior Design graduate, Wolverhampton School of Art, University of Wolverhampton

Statement: Rehabilitation Centre

My Final Major Project was based around support for Emergency Services staff that suffer with mental health complications due to the trauma experienced in circumstances in which they work.

The idea was to create a centre that will offer a wide range of proven methods, across the 3 key principles of mental well-being (Nature, Mindfulness and Physical Activity) to help the users recover from their own personal traumas. These methods include: Yoga, Spa Treatments, Gym Access, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Outdoor Sports and Gardening – all of which can be done in groups or as an individual.

Following my Graduation, I will be looking to find some experience within the design sector, while finding myself a specific area to specialise in. Currently, I am looking to go down the route of Kitchen and Bathroom Design/Installation, but that may change as I, hopefully, gain experience in other areas and learn of other possible career path that a degree in design can open up for me.

My Experience:

As will be the same with many people, the main memories that will stay with me from University will be the people (Students, Staff and Visiting Lecturers) that I have met along my journey from a shy level 4 student who didn't know what was in store for him, to a more confident and driven level 6 student who is ready to take on whatever the world throws at him.

But from a professional point of view, one of the key experiences for me was the Trip to the Milan Furniture show in 2018. The early starts and long coach trips were definitely worth it for all of the incredible places we got to visit - in particular, The Vitra House, with its inspiring architecture and the furniture show itself, with the unbelievable number of exhibits showcasing work from all over the world
