Title of Piece: 404.Gender

Statement:

Gender is a collection that looks at inclusivity and how the fashion industry need to change and represent the many different body types, and personalities that people have; no matter their age gender, race, religion, disabilities, etc. It looks at making fashion fun, creative and personal to each individual. 404.Genders looks to create a bridge between gendered fashion and genderless fashion. At every possible turn, the collection questions the norms that are set by society when it comes to fashion and breaks down these barriers to create something for everyone. Not HE, Not SHE, But WE.

In the future, Harriet is looking to create her own sustainable fashion brand which continues to create fashion inclusivity. She is always looking at ways of up-cycling and reusing fabrics and clothing to reduce their chances of going to landfill. Her main passion is to create inclusivity within the fashion industry and to reduce waste, these aspects will help drive her business to grow. Creating handmade limited edition up-cycled pieces for everyone.

My Experience:

Harriet’s favourite aspect about the course was the chance to be able to use new machinery which she wouldn’t normally have access to. It gave her the chance to experiment while building new skills. Her favourite machine was “The Beast” or the heat bed as it prints custom fabric which allowed Harriet to tell stories and give more value to her fashion designs. She continues to further her skills from university by working on costumes and custom fashion pieces.
