Georgia Taylor

Georgia Taylor, 2020 BA (Hons) Photography graduate, Wolverhampton School of Art, University of Wolverhampton

Title of Piece: Unfeigned

Statement:

Georgia Taylor’s project, Unfeigned explores the aesthetic approach of beauty vs beautiful, compromising of portraits that celebrate the being of the subject with a secondary purpose to empower the individual. This approach emanates a sense of dominance, elevating the chosen subject and adds an element of strength to the portraits. The editing approach of such amplified contrast and clarity enhances such distinguishable features, rather than distorting the original perception of the individual, and accentuates these features further. The viewer is also invited to appreciate the same beauty that has been identified by the artist in different facial structures and features but also allows for the viewer to create their own assumptions by leaving the subject’s physical attributes to tell a story.

Georgia aims to further her career as a Portrait Photographer by beginning her freelance business. She plans to start up an independent studio in the future that will allow her space to continue her practice and build a commercial portfolio using skills that she has gained at university as well as existing knowledge.

My Experience:

Studying at the University of Wolverhampton, predominantly in the George Wallis (MK) building, allowed for me to be expressive in a creative environment surrounded by other talented students. This creativity was able to come to fruition when working in the various facilities that was provided by the university such as the photographic studio and the darkrooms as the possibilities seemed endless. From this, I was able to establish my practice by starting a photographic series that became my leading portfolio project.
