Title of Piece: Why the Sun and the Moon live in the sky.

Statement:

Life is a contest,
And when I fail to compete I will die,
And even though the grim reaper may not collect my body,
When I fail to compete I will surrender to the comfort of the bells,
And my soul will belong to my keeper,
For life is a contest. - William G Baker 1259-AZ

My final project was inspired by my visit to Alcatraz in San Francisco where I met an ex-inmate and visited the now deserted prison. I took inspiration from the architecture and from the general vibe of the prison during my visit. This is shown throughout my project using the garments to reflect prison life and the textures linking back to the rough edges of the walls. Following university, I hope to set up my own business with my sister who is also an artist. She has always encouraged me and nurtured my skills to help me develop them further.

My Experience:

It has been around 16 weeks since my university, along with so many others, closed due to this global pandemic. We have all struggled and so much has been lost. People have lost time with family and friends and some have lost dear loved ones. But for some, this time has given us a chance to appreciate the time we do have, the bad days remind us that tomorrow will be better and the good days let us know we can make the best of this.
