Since graduating from the BA (Hons) Animation Course at Wolverhampton in 2015, Megan has worked as a marketing advisor and progressed to become a General Manager at JLL Fitness Ltd.

We caught up with Megan to discuss what she is up to now, her favourite aspect of the course and her advice to current students.

Megan Horton BA (Hons) Animation graduate, Wolverhampton School of Art, University of Wolverhampton

I began my full time Animation course during 2012 commuting to and from Tamworth for each lecture, whilst doing so I was able to continue with part time work and hobbies outside of uni. From the graduation show I was presented with the opportunity along with friends to visit the Aardman animation studios down in Bristol and see first-hand the inner workings of a busy studio. Completed the course during 2015 and took on my first artistic job role in 2016.

Spending hours with friends in a small animation room giggling and feasting on snacks while working on our final films and motivating each other. There was always help not far away and positivity and support from both tutors and peers. There were lows of course, but the good times far outweighed them.

If you're still unsure of your chosen career it's not a bad thing, don't pigeonhole yourself with your course and keep eyes open because these skills can take you places you never even considered before.

I started off as a marketing advisor, worked with a lot of Adobe programs and gradually grew my graphic design skills and have now progressed to manage a team. The video editing skills are what gained me the job initially, but I’ve since been able to really progress in a multitude of other areas because of that base.

Best practice is to do what makes you happy and surround yourself with people who motivate and inspire you.
