Growing up in Wolverhampton and surrounded by books, Lucy wanted to study Animation to learn more about storytelling.

After graduating in 2018, she pursued an MA in Children's Publishing at Bath Spa University where she furthered her skills.

Lucy graduated from her Masters in 2019 and has recently begun working as a Book Designer and Artworker for Wonderbly - a personalised publishing company where she helps to create meaningful and imaginative books that teach children to be courageous, curious and kind. 

We caught up with Lucy to discuss what she is up to now, her favourite aspect of the course and her advice to current students.

Originally from Wolverhampton, I now work in London as a Book Designer & Artworker at Wonderbly helping to create meaningful, personalised children's books. I love storytelling in all shapes and forms and hope to continue working with wonderful people to tell imaginative and inspiring stories in the years to come. 

I currently work with a bunch of fantastic people where I help to tell meaningful, magical, personalised stories as a Book Designer & Artworker at Wonderbly in London. The books I work on let children imagine themselves doing extraordinary things and help prepare them for every chapter of their life.

The modules that I took on the Animation course will always stay with me; learning to design characters and write scripts were some of my favourites. I was particularly interested in the storytelling side of Animation and I feel like I was given the tools and space to pursue that on this course. Alongside that, having amazing lecturers who supported me throughout my three years made the experience much more meaningful and memorable. 

Get as involved as you can and have fun. Pursue your passions - the people at the University of Wolverhampton will help to get you where you want to be. Lovely, interesting people, fun, engaging classes and overall a wonderful place to be for creatives.

I will always be grateful that I studied Animation at the University of Wolverhampton because the course taught me so much about the industry and about how to tell a great story. You leave with a vast range of skills from the wide range of modules available, as well as industry experience from live project opportunities. Most importantly, the course allows you to pursue your interests and helps to nurture and develop your skills.
