Wolverhampton School of Art / Student Case Studies / Glenn Rossington

Glenn Rossington studied Photography (BA Hons) from 2009 – 2012 at the Wolverhampton School of Art. We caught up with Glenn to discuss what he is up to now, his favourite aspect of studying Photography at the School of Art and his advice to anyone studying now.

I mainly photograph bands and artists across the UK in venues of all sizes. From the unknown to major acts in pubs and arenas to both small and major festivals. I have worked alongside clients such as: This Is Soundcheck, NME, SJM Concerts, Material PR, Chuff Media and Coventry Evening Telegraph to name a few. I am also putting the finishing touches to a new podcast discussing photography with artists, covering a wide variety of genres.

The best parts of the course are split into two main aspects for me. The first was having the access to facilities and resources that I would not have otherwise had; the studios, the darkrooms and editing suites as well as the multitude of studio equipment and lenses. The other was the opportunities that became available. I managed to work as an official photographer for the school where my photography ended up in the 2012/13 prospectus. I also got to spend 3 months as a photographer on a working trip to Holland as part of the Da Vinci Program.

If you’re studying now, utilise everything that you can. Spend time with the lecturers and take in their knowledge and advice. Use the resources that are available to you – studios, darkrooms, crit sessions, visiting lecturers, study trips. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or feedback. Make friends with everyone too. You will be one big family for your duration at the Uni, you never know what opportunities will come your way and above all, enjoy every moment.
