Patrick Campbell-Brookes

"Patrick Campbell-Brookes (PatchyCB) is an illustrator based in the West Midlands, UK, with an open and experimental approach. He is keen to seek out new and challenging opportunities and his work ranges from colourful, playful, graphic styled illustrations & animation, to captivating moody digital paintings, to graphic design and photography work. Patrick mostly uses Photoshop as a way of producing his carefully crafted worlds and characters, but is fluent in Illustrator & InDesign, whilst also taking an interest in animation packages to breathe life into his artworks."

Hi, my name is Patrick Campbell-Brookes, but people call me Patchy. I am an illustrator whose practice spans from editorial to concept art. I love creating colourful and playful editorial illustrations with a graphic edge to them, responding to text and current events. I use character interaction to create images that express the story and message and use it to engage the reader and create intrigue and empathy in a visually interesting way. I test ideas that involve animation for web mediums as I think small movement can tell a viewer so much and am interested in editorial illustration design for contemporary digital outputs. I also utilise my finely honed digital drawing skills to create large, more conceptual digital paintings that focus on conveying mood and emotion with large environments and powerful lighting. These paintings make use of darker and more gritty colours. My goal with these images in the LOST project is to convey the feeling of being Lost whether that’s surface level like literally being lost or more abstract like how the feeling can appear with conditions such as OCD. I draw a lot of inspiration from my research into graphic designers and painters combining the styles and finding new ways of using colour and techniques, as well as drawing lots of inspiration from music. Most of my work revolves around Photoshop whether that’s sketching, painting, or animating with the few exceptions I make use of Illustrator and InDesign as well.
