Lisa Edwards

"Lisa Edwards is a 23 year old art student from Hampshire. Her love of art began during childhood and only increased over time. She has never been one to specialise as there are too many materials she enjoys working with, and is always looks to experiment with new things. She says that her greatest achievement is no longer creating art that people expect her to and being able to produce work that is out of the ordinary and as some might say, questionable."

I think I might be a bit of a ‘neat freak’. I’m not sure when this affliction (or not, depending on your own levels of neat) began, I’ll check with my parents. But it became apparent, during my late-night shifts at the local Tesco Metro (making art is all kinds of glamorous), that I was a stacker, not a chucker. I’ll explain. My job involved collecting cardboard packaging (again the glamour) and putting it into large metal cages, which were then taken away to be recycled. Some staff threw it in any old way. This, I will admit disturbed me somewhat, it irked me. Not only did it not make the most efficient use of the limited space in the cages; It looked awful. Really visually unappealing. I didn’t throw, I placed. I carefully folded down, cut in half and neatly stacked. I made good use of the space, I made art. I’m always looking for unusual materials to work with, cardboard, plates, pumpkins. That’s right, I carved pumpkins for a project, 56 to be precise. What can I say, I love anything Halloween themed. I don’t like to be restricted with what I use, I’ll admit I get bored easily, so working with new materials keeps it interesting. I like to demonstrate that there is more to art than paintings hanging on walls (as interesting as that is to some people), linking my work to my life. The most recent example being my cardboard work at Tesco.
