Drei Rutherford-Harris

"Drei was born in England and studied Graphic Design at Halesowen College and is currently studying 3rd Year Illustration at the University of Wolverhampton where he achieved a BA Hons in the subject. He specialises as an Illustrator and Graphic Image Maker. His image making focuses on telling a story with a deeper meaning behind what is shown. The mood and atmosphere of his designs stand out and communicate intense emotion. Right now, Drei is constantly inspired by various Image Makers from all walks of life, broadening his approach to art to seeing and making art. Drei works with traditional media before digitally finalising his art, usually on Photoshop and other digital design apps to create colourful, intense and dramatic scenes. Drei can be found at dhbrh@hotmail.com"

I have completed my undergraduate degree in Illustration at the University of Wolverhampton, developing my skills as a graphic image maker and turning to mark making and photomontage to tell stories. After winning the Quinzone award in 2006 for my artwork, I have participated and developed my art practice inside formal education and out. I am inspired by Karoline Pietrowski a character designer and Tim Mars an illustrator who are big influences on my work. I am particularly interested in comics, manga and fantasy art which inspired me to start drawing cartoon characters as a child and develop a love for drawing stories. As well as having a passion for narrative illustrating, I am an image maker who also focuses on telling a story with hidden depths, using both traditional and non-traditional media to communicate. Currently, I am working on projects around the Black Lives Matter movement, where posters show a person of colour in various places of the world showing, as the slogan says, ‘People are People’, as well as a project influenced by my research in ‘Mystery and Suspense in Comics and Manga’. Here l tell the story of a person who has dealt with a suspenseful and mysterious life in different comic styles. It can vary from realistic to stylised cartoons, from colour to black and white. Right now, I continue to be inspired by graphic image makers and seek to tell stories through the skills I have developed throughout my studies and practice.
