Self isolating during Covid-19

Stay connected, engage with your learning and access support

Protecting our University community requires everyone to play a part by being socially aware and individually responsible to help reduce the spread of the virus. There may be a time during this semester when you need to self-isolate or limit your contact with others, and this guide will help you know when and how to isolate, how to inform the University and the essentials you’ll need to engage with your learning and access support when required.

If you are experiencing symptoms of coronavirus or have tested positive, please refer to our Covid-19 Reporting Procedure for the action you need to take.

Guide for self isolating

If you need to self-isolate, we will support you every step of the way. We have compiled the following advice and will update this in line with national and local guidance.

We strongly encourage students and staff to download the NHS Test and Trace app and use it to check-in at any location that has a QR code to scan. These will be displayed at food outlets on campus and also at bars, restaurants, hairdressers and other public businesses in our region.

By using the app correctly you’ll be notified if you’ve had contact with a positive case and need to self isolate to keep others safe.

Our Covid-19 Reporting Procedures page contains more information on what to do if you are contacted by Test and Trace.

It is no longer a legal requirement to self-isolate following a positive test. However, it is important for anyone who tests positive or who is experiencing coronavirus symptoms to follow Government advice by staying at home and avoiding contact with other people for at least five full days.

Visit our Covid-19 reporting procedure webpage for more information.

  • Do not go out to get food or medicine – you should order it online or by phone, or ask someone to bring and leave outside your home

  • Do not visit friends or family in their own homes
  • If you live in student accommodation you should remain there, and not travel back to your home address.

Connecting with other students is a positive step that can enhance your studies through learning from others and making new friends. It is also an essential step to avoid loneliness and to contribute to positive mental health. Your modules in Canvas will have a discussion area which is open all the time for students to communicate.

The University of Wolverhampton Students' Union offers many opportunities to interact with other students, be it through student societies, online activities and events, campaigns or student voice. You can find out more about Wolves SU here.
