From 1 April 2022, the Government will no longer provide free universal symptomatic and asymptomatic testing for the general public in England. These are also known as PCR and lateral flow tests (LFTs).
The Government has stated that staff and students in higher education settings are no longer being asked to undertake twice-weekly asymptomatic testing. The University is following the Government's guidance.
If you still have LFTs available at home, please continue testing and reporting positive cases using the University's Reporting Procedure.
Testing is just one part of our on-campus preventative measures against coronavirus, so please continue to follow our safety guidelines and wear a face-covering when you are moving around on campus.
Latest guidance
Most people in England are no longer advised to get tested.
The NHS provides further guidance on:
- what to do if you have Covid-19 symptoms or have tested positive for Covid-19
- what to do if you've been in close contact with someone with Covid-19
- how to avoid catching and spreading Covid-19
If you still want to get tested and you're not eligible for a free NHS test, you must pay for a Covid-19 test yourself.
You can buy a Covid-19 test from some pharmacies and retailers, in person or online.
Do not call 119, as you will not be able to get a test this way. You cannot order tests from NHS 111 or 999.
There are a small number of people who will still be able to get free Covid-19 tests from the NHS.
- If you have a health condition that means you're eligible for new Covid-19 treatments
- If you're going into hospital for surgery or a procedure
- If you work in the NHS or in social care
More information, including how to order a test if you're eligible, is available on the NHS website: Get tested for coronavirus
