The Wolverhampton English Proficiency Examination (WEPE)

The International Academy has developed a secure online WEPE examination which enables students to sit the exam from their home location, giving greater access to all students who wish to apply for courses at the University of Wolverhampton.

The Wolverhampton English Proficiency Examination (WEPE) is used to decide if your level of English is good enough to begin most full-time undergraduate degrees and some postgraduate degree courses at the University of Wolverhampton (please see below for course exceptions).

You will be examined in four areas:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Listening
  • Speaking

You will receive a global score (average score of the four areas), and if this is the equivalent of IELTS 6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in any element, you will be able to progress to most undergraduate degree courses, with the exception of some professional related courses that require a Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Body (PSRB) check, such as Nursing, Midwifery, some Pharmacy courses, Social Work, Paramedic Science, Physiotherapy, Teaching or Graduate Employment Based Route leading to Early Years Teacher Status. (Please check individual course and professional body requirements as some courses have higher English language requirements).

The WEPE examination is also suitable for entry for some postgraduate courses that require an equivalent to an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each area (unless otherwise stated), at the University of Wolverhampton, with the exception of some professional related courses that require a Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Body (PSRB) check, such as Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Paramedic Science, Physiotherapy, Teaching or Graduate Employment Based Route leading to Early Years Teacher Status. (Please check individual course and professional body requirements as some courses have higher English language requirements).

The next scheduled WEPE examination will be held on:

  • 15th June 2022

You are strongly advised to do some English language study preparation before the course begins, especially if you are entering the course at IELTS 5.0.
