English Language Short Courses

The International Academy is situated in the historic Priorslee Hall and offers a unique learning environment and study experience for our international students.  This listed building offers teaching rooms that are bright and welcoming with modern facilities where classes are run by dedicated and qualified staff.

We offer a range of short courses at the International Academy, Teacher Development, Study Semester Abroad (UK) and our popular Summer and Winter Schools are open to non-university students and are designed for beginners/elementary English language learners who want to develop their speaking, listening, writing and reading skills with an emphasis on developing practical communication skills.

The International Academy Summer and Winter School programmes welcome students from all over the world to take part in elective classes, study English, develop communication skills, experience living and studying at a UK university, and visit places of historical and cultural interest.

Course content: You will receive 14 hours a week of study in an interactive group setting, covering all four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. (Max class size: 22)

You can choose to join an organised accompanied, one full day and one half day weekly trip to some of the U.K.'s major tourist and cultural attractions and undertake 4 hours of study in your option choice of Art and Design, Media and Culture or Professional Communication.

The Study Semester Abroad Scholarship (UK) programme enables students from overseas universities the opportunity to study a semester in English or the academic subject in the context of a modern British university, for one semester.

Study Semester Abroad Scholarship (UK) students will be taught on degree courses by highly qualified staff in classes where they will interact with British and international students. They will be able to take advantage of the facilities of a modern British university while experiencing life in a cosmopolitan city at the heart of the United Kingdom.

The Teacher Development and TEFL Teacher Training courses enable teachers of English from around the world to experience English language first hand and reflect upon their own teaching methodology.

Participants are given the opportunity to:

  • Develop strategies for teaching large and small groups of students
  • Acquire new skills and reflect upon their use in the classroom
  • Practise and improve their own English language in an English-speaking environment
  • Learn about the English speaking world at first hand

MA TESOL 

This part-time course will be delivered online via the University of Wolverhampton’s virtual learning environment (VLE), CANVAS starting January 2021. Students will complete six taught modules and a small-scale independent research project. The general educational aim of the pathway is the education and training of specialists in the field of Teaching of English for Speakers of other Languages (TESOL).
