Applied Seismology Consulting Ltd (ASC) is a research & development, and consulting SME based in Shrewsbury.

ASC’s expertise and knowledge are in the application of seismology to the understanding and imaging of both natural and anthropogenic deformation and fracturing processes in rock and brittle materials, at a range of scales from acoustic emission testing in the laboratory up to microseismic monitoring in the field and regional-scale earthquakes.

For the past 20 years, ASC has applied the techniques of seismology, such as geophysical imaging and waveform analysis, source location and analysis of spatial and temporal patterns, to a range of industries including geological storage, mining, energy and civil engineering.

The company sought support from the University of Wolverhampton SOLVD team to investigate the implementation of big data and analytics and Internet of Things (IoT) type framework for their data acquisition systems.

During an initial 12 hours of fully funded support, the SOLVD team of experts identified a data management architecture for application specific use case in addition to the recommended architecture as well as hardware/software solutions for acquisition, storage, processing, networking and visualisation of data. Specific recommendations were made with regards to time series databases and user interfaces (dashboards) that ASC could use.

The recommendations provided by the SOLVD team can be used by ASC to strengthen their existing infrastructure and possibly scale it up for big data applications.

Experts from the SOLVD team at the University of Wolverhampton can help your business harness cutting-edge digital technologies to improve your business productivity.

Fully funded support is available for businesses in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.
